As we sail deeper into the Deutschland (Germany), we begin to encounter the finer things. Yes, and in addition to airplanes, wine and cheese as well. 😉
First, we strolled the streets of Strasbourg France (borders on Germany). In my effort to be more mindful on this trip, I slowed down and allowed myself some stops . . . like a small cheese shop. The proprietor had pulled down some huge wheels of cheese and would shave off samples. I found a wonderful white cheddar that he vacuum packed for travel. I’m not sure, however, that the cheese will make it off the boat.
Late in the day we visited an Alsatian winery and did some tastings. I’ll have to say that this small organic winery (Zeyssolff) put on a better show than Napa. The biggest laugh from our crowd came when our guide asked if anyone wanted to dump their wine between samples. Ha, ha, ha . . . you haven’t seen this crowd on the boat. No wine left behind!
Just when it couldn’t get any better, we are told about a “technical” museum in the next town . . . where they have an entire Boeing 747 on stilts. I’m there! The Speyer Technik Museum is a must-do if you get anywhere near this place. They also had a flown-in Russian AN-22, and a barged-in Russian Buran “Space Shuttleski”. Of course, the German WWII Aircaft were authentic, to include bullet holes from allied strafing. Tschuss!! (for now).
